I am excited to share with you over the next few weeks about Shifting Atmospheres Through Intercession.
Today I want to demystify intercession and show you how beautiful and easy it can be. We will look at some basics and build from there over the coming weeks. Many people have a mindset of intercession as locking yourself away in a tiny closet, wailing and weeping out to God for hours on end - travailing and carrying a heavy burden before the Lord in prayer. I have good news for you. Intercession is not meant to feel burdensome and heavy, it does not have to be isolating and it is not meant to wear you out and exhaust you.
Intercession is exciting and fun. The Holy Spirit is so creative and is waiting for you to partner with Him to shift the atmospheres around you in ways you could never imagine or dream. There is no set formula for prayer. How refreshing is that! Look at the way Jesus prayed.
"When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had varying kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them" (Luke 4:40).
"When evening came, they brought to Him many who were demon possessed; and He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were ill."
Or what about Jesus spitting in the dirt and healing a blind man?
Intercession too can vary. Sometimes it looks like flagging and dancing. Other times it looks like praying in tongues or worshipping, giving thanks and praise, doing prophetic acts (which I will talk about another week), or being still with God in your favorite place. God is also waiting to partner with you when you are involved in what you love. I have had some of the best conversations and prayer times with Father God on the treadmill.
Before next week, take some time and work through these questions:
Ask Father God, Jesus or the Holy Spirit, whoever you feel most comfortable praying to:
1/ Are there any lies I am believing about intercession?
If you heard "yes", ask Him where you learned those lies and then forgive that person or people for teaching these lies to you. Renounce the lies and then ask God what is the truth He wants to show you to displace the lies.
If you heard "No", then ask Him to show you something new about intercession.
2/ Have I been believing the lie that you don't speak to me?
If you heard "yes", ask Him who you need to forgive and what you need to forgive them for? Renounce the lies and ask God what the truth is that He wants you to know.
If you heard "No", then ask God the ways He would like to communicate with you this week.
My prayer for you this week is that you connect to God in a powerful way and have conversations with Him about what intercession will look like in your life. I pray for deep encounters of His love and peace over you as you go about your week.
Next week I will talk about the authority we have been given as believers to shift atmospheres.
