Jesus was the ultimate intercessor and atmosphere shifter for all mankind.
His life is the best example we have of intercession.. He reconciled us to the Father by going between the Father and all of humanity. He not only gave His life as a redemptive sacrifice for our sins, but through His resurrection He also gave us everlasting life. Jesus shifted an atmosphere and reality of death to one of eternal life. What a beautiful gift.
Not only that, but He brought hope to the hopeless and peace to chaos, He silenced the winds and storms, Cast out demons and brought the dead back to life, He laid hands on the sick and they were made well, He spoke the word and healing manifested. Jesus carried the atmosphere of heaven wherever He went evidenced by people being healed simply by touching His clothing.
The Bible tells us that Jesus often went away by Himself to a secluded place to be with His Father. In John 5:19 it says:
Then Jesus answered and said to them “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the son also does in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.”
Most likely the Father revealed His heart and plans to Jesus in this private place. In order to replicate this atmospheric shift, we need to know the Father’s heart.
Knowing the Father’s heart is birthed out of our relationship with Him. We need to get into the secret place where we become still, where we spend time with Him and learn of the plans He has to restore the world. Spending time in the secret place simply means spending time alone in the presence of God away from distractions and noise. The essence of the secret place is the time you have set aside to be with God. It is important to spend time with Him everyday. It’s a time to build a deeper relationship with Him not to present our prayer lists or our agenda. (see Stephen's teaching "Shirtless in My Offering." )
The secret place doesn't have to be a physical location. I remember a leader talking about her secret place. She would meet Jesus in a tree swing from her childhood. Although she no longer lived there she would go back to that place in her mind and invite Jesus to join her and they would chat for hours. Your secret place can be somewhere you feel comfortable and relaxed; your bedroom, a park bench, prayer chapel, outside in nature......
While meeting with God this week in prayer, expect Him to download to you practical ways for you to begin shifting the atmospheres around you. Send in your experiences so we can celebrate with you this coming week.
